If that is not the case you can run it from another computer. If the scale is sending the information to a computer then you can install wireshark or some other packet analyzing tool on it and run it on there and you will be able to see the packets that are coming from the scale. To do that you need something more like wireshark. You won't see the traffic though that the scale is sending out. Using telnet to connect to a server is sometimes a good tool for testing server side stuff like smtp. I don't think this will provide what you are looking for.
